UNLAWFUL SALES OF CARS IN THE VILLAGE
Recently the Clerk has received comments from residents about cars which are for sale in the village. These cars have a notice in the window indicating they are for sale and they have been left for long periods of time at various locations in the village. If you try to sell your car/s in this way you are contravening Schedule 4 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. This method of selling is classed as unlicensed street trading and it applies to anything advertised for sale in this way (including a living thing!). If such items for sale are reported to the Clerk in future she will inform South Cambs District Council who will investigate the matter to see whether any prosecutions can be brought.
Concerned residents can themselves ring South Cambs Environmental Services Department, telephone 08450 450 063 or go on line to report their complaint. In fact the more people who complain the more likely it is that something might be done!
May 2009 - The Parish Council plans to do some work in this area to prevent cars being placed on the grassed area. However, the concrete road belongs to Anglian Water who need access 24/7 and they have refused permission for the Parish Council to place a barrier across the entrance.
