WHAT'S HAPPENING ABOUT OUR LIBRARY?

WHAT’S HAPPENING ABOUT OUR LIBRARY?

The Parish Council met with representatives of the Libraries Service on 17 November. We were told the following

No libraries will close
No compulsory redundancies for members of front line staff
Bar Hill Library will have 23 hours of paid staff
The self-service machines will be put in week beginning 9 January, and Harry (the Post Office) will extend his area at that time too
The Library can be open the same hours as the Post Office
Volunteers are still needed
If the community decides that it needs more than 23 hours of paid staff then the Parish Council has to pay for it.

All of these changes – apart from the physical re-organisation of the Library) – will take place from 1 April 2012.

We shall find out later when the library staff will be there to help you, but if you simply want to return or take out a book you will be able to use the self-service machines.

I think you will agree that this is good news.
