Vacancy for Clerk to Bar Hill Parish Council

Salary will be in line with the nationally agreed pay scale, based upon experience and will be between £24,982 and £28,672.

Bar Hill is a small parish situated around 5 miles west of Cambridge, off the A14 with a population of around 4,000.  The parish council consists of 13 councillors when at full capacity.

We are looking to recruit our Clerk to the Council and believe that the person we appoint is:

  • Qualified and holds the CiLCA (Certificate in Local Council Administration) qualification or is willing to work towards it;
  • Self-confident in managing their relationships with people at all levels;
  • Able to work independently and effectively and has administrative experience;
  • Able to manage a diverse and sometimes complex range of work; and
  • Able to attend evening meetings of the council at least once per month.

Due to the nature of the work, we are looking to recruit a full-time clerk at 37 hours per week which will include the evening meetings.  The successful candidate will have a presence at the Parish Office with flexibility for some working from home subject to agreement on appointment.

Preferably our successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of local government procedures and law, or show they have the willingness to learn with training.  This is a varied role where they will be responsible to the Council for all administration for the parish council, providing appropriate advice and implementing decisions.

The members of the parish council believe that to be successful in this role, the Clerk will need to build relationships at all levels and also demonstrate strong organisational, time management, administrative and IT skills.  An interest in local community is preferred.
